Power distribution and control module

Power distribution and control modules by Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) provide mission critical power switching of external loads as well as solar array switch control and power bus monitoring.

SwRI power distribution modules have flown on or are in development for the following missions:

  • IMAGE

  • Swift

  • Deep Impact

  • Orbital Express

  • Kepler

  • WISE

Capabilities Provided by SwRI Power Distribution Models

  • Power distribution

    • 24 power switches (4.5A rated) controlled via VME bus commands or external pulses to on-board latching relays

    • Current monitoring on for all switches

    • Over-current protection for all switches

  • Solar Array Control and Power Bus Monitoring

    • 20 solar array switches (3A rated) controlled via VME bus

    • Up-to 20A continuous current carrying capability

    • Analog telemetry monitors for:

      • Battery current

      • Battery voltage

      • Spacecraft bus current

      • Spacecraft bus voltage
