Advanced Development Section
The Advanced Development Section in the Signal
Exploitation and Geolocation Division provides research and development in the areas of
antennas, subsystems, and electronic warfare support systems for small-to-medium aperture
antenna array LF through HF direction finding (DF) and COMINT applications. The primary
areas of focus are electromagnetically and physically challenging environments such as
Navy surface ships, submarines, and building rooftops.
Computer-based numerical modeling
provides significant improvement in the ability to accurately predict prototype antenna
performance and to dramatically reduce the requirement for experimental testing.

A photograph of a warship is shown next to a computer
model that is used to calculate the ship's electromagnetic response at various trial
locations for communications antennas.

|
Computer-modeling accuracy is checked by comparing
views of modeled antenna locations and photographs of actual shipboard installations.
