Manual transmission

Since 1990, the Drivetrain Design and Development Section at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) has supported the transmission and driveline engineering needs of automotive, off-road, stationary industrial, and other industries from around the world. The Drivetrain Design and Development Section has developed transmissions from bicycle to heavy truck applications in several configurations, including:

  • Manual

  • Automatic

  • Stepped ratio

  • Continuously variable

  • Conventional

  • Hybrid

Design, fabrication, development, and evaluation services are offered for production and prototype drivetrain programs.

SwRI's experienced drivetrain design and development staff uses computer-aided design (CAD) technology extensively with in-house and commercial software for product design and development. Further, an extensive transmission facility was constructed with capabilities for transmission testing, evaluation, and development.  These facilities are continuously modified and upgraded to meet clients' needs.
