Future Engine Benchmarking programs for the Class 8 truck engines (Approximately 475 HP, 1650 lb-ft, 354 kW, 2237 Nm) 2008 Detroit Diesel DD15 may include the tasks listed below.
 

Work to be Performed

  • Cold, hot, and composite federal heavy-duty transient emissions cycle

  • ESC 13-mode emissions cycle

  • Nonroad 8-mode emissions cycle

  • Nonroad transient emissions cycle

  • Hot motoring friction curve (complete engine)

  • Engine brake curve (if equipped)

  • Steady-state map (100 RPM, 10% load steps)

  • DPF evaluation test

  • Coolant temperature derate test

  • Crankshaft torsional test

  • 0 to 100% load snap throttle transient response tests at three ESC speeds

  • Engine teardown and measurements

  • Cylinder head flow bench testing

Deliverables

  • Logged data during heavy-duty transient cycle (1 Hz) in Excel format

  • Logged data during nonroad transient cycle (1 Hz) in Excel format

  • 13-mode ESC and 8-mode nonroad modal data in Excel format

  • Logged snap-throttle response data (10 Hz) in Excel format

  • Friction curve data in Excel format

  • Brake curve data in Excel format

  • Steady-state mapping data in Excel spreadsheets

  • PowerPoint summary presentation of performance and emissions test results

  • Performance and emissions test report in PDF format

  • DPF evaluation report in PDF format

  • Teardown and technical assessment report in PDF format (includes flow bench report)

  • High-resolution digital photographs from engine teardown in JPEG format

  • CDs containing the reports, data, and photos
