Biomedical Engineering Section

The staff in the Biomedical Engineering Section provide expertise in medical technology development and medical device development. Research areas include: physiological sensing, biomechanics, cardiovascular, imaging, MEMS, and optics. To support medical device development, SwRI uses a proven four-stage process including: concept prototype development, design, fabrication, risk analysis, and manufacturing start-up assistance. SwRI engineers have considerable experience in designing devices with the following technologies: wireless, opto-electronics, signal and image processing, mechanisms, electronics, fluidics, software, implants, industrial design, ergonomics, and product packaging.

The Biomedical Engineering Quality System is ISO 13485:2003 certified and complies with the FDA Quality System Regulation. We have experience developing high quality documentation necessary for 510K, PMA, and EU submissions.
