Business
Process
Re-engineering

Expanding world markets and new technologies have
raised the competitive bar and accelerated the need for organizations to improve
their performance and customer satisfaction. Business process re-engineering (BPR)
seeks to evaluate how well business processes and supporting infrastructures
accommodate maturing and ever-changing business needs. BPR combines a process
view and the application of advanced information technology (IT) in planned,
comprehensive organizational change efforts and solutions.
Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) offers a
multidisciplinary, interactive team of highly qualified business and technical
experts who can analyze current processes and define new processes to help
businesses become more efficient and modern.

SwRI's BPR team
integrates advances in technologies and business practices to implement
comprehensive and multi-faceted IT changes and solutions for business
success.

Defining the Need for BPR
An organization may recognize the need for process
improvement due to awareness of concerns such as:
- Inefficient data processing, from either
insufficient automation or ineffective IT solutions
- Inaccurate report information, leading to missed
opportunities or unwise strategic decisions
- Outdated IT systems that are not capable of
fully supporting business goals
- Incomplete or interrupted communication between
departments
- Increased customer wait time
- Diminished quality of customer service
- Decreasing repeat business
Implementing BPR
SwRI's BPR team focuses on redesigning the business
process as a whole to achieve the greatest possible benefits to the organization
and its customers.
- BPR begins with a high-level assessment of the
organization's mission, strategic goals and customer needs.
- BPR is used to identify, analyze and redesign
the core business processes with the aim of achieving dramatic improvements
in critical performance measures such as cost, quality, service and speed.
- BPR results in customer-focused and
outcome-oriented change in response to internal and external forces
requiring a re-evaluation of the business performance.
- BPR not only transforms processes but also
ensures that the business structure, IT and culture are successfully
assimilated into the improved processes.
