Training, Simulation and Performance Improvement
Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) is renowned for the development of innovative and effective solutions to training problems. The Institute develops unique training programs and performance-enhancing systems, using state-of-the-art technologies, to provide a wide range of integrated training solutions. The Training, Simulation and Performance Improvement (TSPI) Division consists of highly qualified staff members with broad-based scientific and technical expertise. Teams of instructional design professionals, simulation engineers, and integration specialists work closely with clients and target audiences to provide effective training solutions.
Staff members conduct research in emerging instructional design theories and specialize in the development and application of training technologies such as virtual environments, embedded computer-based training, speech recognition, real-time computer-generated imagery, and expert knowledge transformation.
The main facility is located in San Antonio, Texas. A satellite office at Hill AFB, Utah provides on-site customer-specific support and services to meet training needs.
SwRI's teams of skilled multidisciplinary experts and modern laboratory facilities combine to produce innovative training solutions for the specific needs of industry and government clients around the world.
Training services include research, feasibility studies, concept formulations, and development of simulators, simulation models, databases, interactive courseware, virtual environments and distributed systems for training, test and evaluation, and operational assessment.
SwRI's expertise in interactive systems development is based on more than 30 years of experience in creating cutting-edge technical solutions within the aerospace and simulation training industries for both the federal government and commercial clients.
SwRI performs all of the phases of the instructional systems process. Training needs assessments are used to analyze training requirements, guide instructional strategies and assist the client in selecting the appropriate training delivery system.
Distributed Learning Environments
SwRI develops web-based training, interactive courseware, simulations, and performance support systems; and applies distance learning technologies to establish effective learning environments for "on-demand" training.
Simulation and Systems Engineering
SwRI applies systems engineering processes to produce complete solutions for simulation, training, and high-technology system problems.
Institute scientists and analysts develop a wide range of training products including interactive courseware, structured on-the-job training guides, and training manuals.
